Thread: Fort meyers fla?

    Default Fort meyers fla?

Hi All, There's a good chance that I'll be spending some time in the Ft. Myers area this fall/winter. Does anyone know of any acoustic-type get-togethers (preferably BG) in that neck of the woods?
Also, any advice about interesting music stores or anything mandolin related would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Clark

PS. I already know about, and have visited the Guitar Center near Page Field. While it was breathtaking, thrill-a-minute adventure, my search continues.

    Default Fort Meyers Fla?

Duplicate Post. Also, sorry, I tried my best to fix up the misspellings and Capitalization errors etc. It just won't let me do it this time! Just in case it's not clear...It should be Ft. Myers. Fla. You know, down there by Naples.

Try Gilchrist Park in Punta Gorda on Thursday evenings starting about 5 or so. Punta Gorda is about 25 miles north of Ft Myers on Fl. rte 41. There's (or used to be) a bunch of small groups playing a lot of BG plus others playing all kinds of stuff.

Flamingo Flea Mkt in Bonita Springs, FL has a very good Bluegrass open stage Sunday AM. Good jamming backstage and good people.

    Hi Clark,

I live in Cape Coral just across the river in Ft. Myers, and find the local music scence lacking. Not much other than bar cover bands (one of which I was a member of at one point :P). I do believe their might be some bluegrass jams or goings-on out on Pine Island (Matlacha, charming hippie fishing village); there's also the Dublin Ale House in south Cape Coral that has ITM jams if that interests you at all. As for shops.....nada. Guitar Center is it....I might be buying a beater/wall-hanger Washburn from them soon, but I had to go online with one of the well known dealers here for my Loar. Good luck!

I was going to recommend Real Guitars on Fowler Street in Fort Myers, but it turns out that he retired and closed the shop in 2012. That was a really nice store . . . not many mandos, however.

You might give Jon & Sharon a call at "My Favorite Guitars", in Naples. They're Bluegrass folks. They should have the 411 on local jams.

Thanks Gplayer...That's a great lead. I'll check it out next time I'm down there (pretty soon I'm sure).

My Pine Island call was right. Guy put an ad on Fort Myers Craigslist putting together a big acoustic oldtime jam for whatever instrument you like.

Sounds like fun. Now all I have to do is hope that I'm down there at the right time(s). My time down there is for 'work' and I have very little input as to when I go or how long I stay. I'll definately be checking on all these helpful suggestions when I can though. (I always bring a beater mandolin just in case).
    Thanks again.
