Default Going through my Tony Rice stuff

Can never get enough of his playing, interesting to note that all of Backwaters except the opening track was recorded with an Ovation guitar. So, it ain't the axe but the axe man.

I agree with this statement. One has only to listen to the first "Tone Poems" album with David Grisman. A different guitar on each cut, but they all sounded like Tony Rice.

Thanks for this info....I didn't recall Tony playing an Ovation on this album. But I remember many other players getting great sound and playing some amazing solos on the rounbacks ( Al Dimeola comes to mind...Daryl Stuermer with Jean Luc Ponty....Glen Campbell etc. The " right " Ovations are certainly among the easiest and most responsive acoustics around IMHO . Their amplified sound leaves much to be desired , I think , but played acoustically , and particularly in the hands of a master like Tony they produce great tone .

Dawg's Kentucky wasn't your usual, garden-variety Kentucky. It was a special model, and a very very good instrument.

I know, Doug (Monteleone/Sumi?) , but for me, it's the driver, not the car. Tony and Dawg can get their sound on every instrument they play.
