I've been learning for a little less than a year now and having a lot of fun. However lately I've been trying very hard to finally embrace and learn rhythm mandolin. Bluegrass chop, etc.
I took my mandolin in for a tune up (ended up buying a new one) and got the action nice and low. So I started working night after night on the basic chop chords from "American Mandolin Method volume 1". At the start I could barely do 5 strums before my hand would start hurting. Fast forward a few weeks/months and now I can chop for a while. The problem I'm having is how to match this up to the music, ie, I need some strumming patterns, perhaps a metronome? Wanted to see what you are tried and found works/doesn't work. I'm a huge fan of progression training, just like you would in strength training or marathon prep. Small steps, periodicity, etc.
My goal is simple, just keep improving, and try not to create too many bad habits along the way. Advice always appreciated.
