    Default Off colored beauties

Greetings community! I am still lurking, not posting as I have finally stopped reading so much and really practiced learning this lovely instrument. For entertainment purposes, I am fascinated with the non traditional colors, my earlier thread about black tops is something I go back to and look at often for eye candy. My next mandolin will be a strange color and I was wondering what some of you may have by way of unique colored mandolins. I love the look of The River on the mandolin store website, and would kill to get my hands on a green burst of sorts if such exists. So what do you have people? Anyone willing to show off their off colored beasts? Cheers!

Dale Ludewig has a few blue and green ones.

The last blue A-5 is by Max and Laurie Girouard.

Here are two I finished in nontraditional colors. The A-style is more maroon than the photo would suggest.

I was torn over dark red but green is a nod to my lifelong geek love for all things great western railway.

in fact i was imagining the colour of the girouard one on the first picture response - will send as a reference to the luthier

Brunswick green? Go for it! Can you get custard and cream strings to go with it?

Unleashing my inner geek yours, John.

lol well the cream's in the binding, the chocolate I suppose is the neck however - gold coloured tailpiece engraved with the "ribbons" logo (the one before the roundel). That and of course, a badger on the headstock and associated paw prints up the neck for dot markers.

Hope you weren't confusing blood & custard coach liveries

LOL. I hope it's as subtle as I imagine it!

previously posted on this site by luthier Dave Cohen. If I recall correctly there is no gray stain involved. It was some concoction of steel wool, vinegar (?) that was rubbed over the wood to trigger some chemical reaction.

Barry, that is wild! Here is a photo of the green/blue one from the front and also a picture of the back with sealer applied. You can't swim in it but you can swim with it. Photo taken above our pool. It was hard to get the true color on camera, it always wanted to shift to the green end.
