    I tired them and they are too short for my tenor banjo. May work on my Gold Tone banjo uke, though. I'll do try that!

    You might consider the D Grand Strumstick. I think it has a banjo-like tone, it's fairly low in pitch and kind of metallic, but it's quiet, not obnoxious. It's a dulcimer, not a uke or mandolin, but I play mine similarly to the mandolin (melody, not chords). I tune it DAd or DGd or EAe. The cool thing is how it accompanies itself. Sometimes the open strings clash but most of the time they form automatic nice chords. As long as the tune doesn't have a lot of accidentals or too wide a range, it works really well--for old-time music, anyway. I've never tried any other kind of music with it.
