in the first video he showed the wood. Engleman spruce for the top, quilted maple neck back and sides, ebony fretboard, headstock and binding, mahogany purfling. only small dots on top of neck for markers, 18-1 grover tuners, allen TR1 tailpiece.

I am going down to see him soon to show an instrument or two that I like the neck profile of and have a play/listen to a mandolin he built. http://www.hovingtoninstruments.com/..._Wildfire.html

Having watched the first video weeks ago, I guess the species slipped my mind. I finally got the chance to watch the rest of the videos this morning and it certainly gave me an even deeper appreciation for my GBOM and the many efforts that went into its construction!

My arms got tired watching him sanding. It truly does give you an appreciation of all the work. I am surprised how fast he has tackled this job. We have also discussed an acoustic electric OM after and Pete at Almuse will make the pickups (for when I play in a band situation).

I gave away a couple instruments recently. It's nice to help out and I can't be bothered selling the lower end stuff

I have a tendency to focus on the quality of the materials (spruce, maple, hardware) and all of the efforts spent carving, sanding, and finishing the instrument. I rarely stop to consider all of the jigs and molds, the glue and tape, the tools and trinkets that go into making the instruments. It must be a labor of love because the hourly rate can't be the reason.

Tomy has done videos on how to make the jigs, benders and such too. he really likes to share his knowledge. Super nice family. His wife sings like an angel too
