Check out "Bluegrass on the Tube". You can sign up for free, and you get a Bluegrass video every day sent to your email. You can Google it for the web address. I would have made a link, but I am "computer semi-illiterate" .

I was just searching YouTube for a few clips of one of my favourite banjo pickers,Joe Mullins,& came across this clip of Joe & the band playing a tune i've never heard or even heard of "Cruisin' Timber", accompanied by the ''Centreville Alternative Strings Ensemble'' at the Centreville High School,Ohio. It's a stuning tune (IMHO) & that's some seriously tuneful playing by Mike Terry on a Weber mandolin that looks not too different from a 'Yellowstone HT' model ? (judging by the headstock inlay). The sound of the Bluegrass band accompanied by the strings is one of the finest things i've heard in a long, long time,
    Weber F-5 'Fern'.
    Lebeda F-5 "Special".
    Stelling Bellflower BANJO
    Tokai - 'Tele-alike'.
    Ellis DeLuxe "A" style.

Inspired by the thread I searched YouTube for this performance. It was really amazing gig at the time in a small town middle of Finland in early nineteens when i was sixteen. I didnt actually realized until yesterday when I watched the video that mandolin player was Adam Steffey.

Special moment to be there in 1991. Love the Finnish kids dancing up front too. From the sound, I would have had to guess Steffey without looking. Thanks for finding.

Edit: Small world. I knew Allison was born in my hometown, but I just now learned from Wikipedia that her father, Fred Krauss, was my first year German teacher in high school.
I saw Homer & Jethro once. This mandolin therapy isn't helping me get over it.

    Fenton,

    John Hardy...Wow....just wow.

These guys just seemed to push and challenge each other to new heights. I love Tony's sideways glance at Sam whe Tony was right at the end of his guitar break on Freeborn Man. Love it!

Good one, Ivan. That tune was written by David Harvey and his Dad, Dorsey, an un-sung mandolin hero. I know of 2 recordings of it: Larry Sparks on his Silver Reflections, with David on mandolin and David's band Wild & Blue, on their first recording (cassette release, 1989, on Vetco) called Too Blue To Cry. This last version is very hip, with David and banjo man John Wheat getting some very tasty licks in.

A bunch of young virtuosos here. Cory Piatt plays very tastefully and I just love his work on this one.
