Default Mandolin repair/setup in DC area?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this - I'm a noob. Well, mostly. I attempted to learn the mando about 15 years ago, didn't get very far, and put it down. I recently dusted the old mando off and started working through some beginner books, and I think I'm hooked - for real this time. It's a just a beginner mando, and I'm not going to invest in a new one until I've made more progress and have a better idea what I want. But I really need a proper setup, and I'm afraid I'll break something if I try to do it myself.

I've heard that it's important to take it to someone that knows mandos (rather than "just" guitars). So...does anyone have a reference for someone in the DC area? I can also do the Harpers Ferry, WV area.

    Thanks!

Appalachian Bluegrass in Catonsville has done some good work on my Washburn. Good prices, very solid. Emory was the guy I worked with there.

House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park does set up work, as well. THey are a little closer to your neck of the woods, although I have gone to Appalachian Bluegrass, because they are the official East Coast repair shop for Eastman.

HMT is also the first thought that came to my mind.

Other possibilities might be Foxes Music in Falls Church or Melodee Music in Leesburg or Sterling. They both sell mandolins so must have someone who sets them up. Might be worth a call. Links below. bb

Melodee Music has stores in Sterling and Leesburg and they sell very nice mandolins. They are a very good shop for guitar repair and I would imagine they can work on mandolins as well.

If you want to take a field trip to Fredericksburg (my neck of the woods) Pickers Supply is in Downtown Fburg. Jeff is a great guy and they have their Luthier here on Fridays and Saturdays for the really serious work.

Beware, they carry a lot of vintage that you just want to pick up and play!
