There is a mainstream artist playing a vintage tenor that is starting to get some serious attention. Birdy is a young singer who also plays piano.
Here she is at RTL Studios performing with a 1951 Martin 0-17T.

Fantastic....... great voice, catchy tune & good lyrics.
I remember my dad saying this about the Stones and the Beatles but man..... this music does nothing for me. It seems very amateurish lyrically and musically and flat performance wise- no dynamics or passion . Not to offend anyone's tastes.....just being honest
LOL... it would be boring if we all liked the same style of music.
A pretty girl playing a vintage tenor is enough for me to like it - full stop!
She's 18, already released two albums, on the Hunger Games soundtrack, another song in the movie Brave. I'd say she's doing alright for barely having started college
She's also the highest current profile tenor guitar player that I'm aware of.
I thought I was the "highest current profile tenor guitar player!" Actually, I'd give that title to Nico Case who's about 10 years ahead of Birdy.
I tend to like girl pop singer song-writers like her that don't overdo the vocal gymnastics. She sounds, as many young girl singers do right now, like Adele, which isn't a bad model to follow. I hope she can develop her own style; she has the talent and is apparantly doing the right things. I'll be listening for her.
1963 Martin 0-18T, 1967 Gibson ETG-150, 1930s Epiphone Beverly Tenor Guitar, 2013 Blueridge BR-40T tenor guitar, 1960s Goya Tenor Guitar, 1980 Alvarez A900 mandolin, 2020 Kentucky KM-656, Flatiron Mandola, Weber Sage #2 OM
I'd say Ani DiFranco, who's been at it for about 20 years now. Even if she just can't seem to get on network TV (and probably says she doesn't care, she's so hip and cool ), she is excellent.
This is pleasant, if innocuous and unmemorable, and half of the time sounds like a hook in search of a song - though pleasant. Pretty much par for the course in most pop music these days. At least there isn't a pounding rhythm track or a bunch of synth doodles.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller

Finders Keepers, my duo with the astoundingly talented and versatile Patti Rothberg. Our EP is finally done, and available! PM me, while they last!
Oh..she.s one of the nominees for the Brit Music Awards.
It would be nice if she won - she's less offensive than most mainstream acts which assault creative and original artistry full on.
For a change, the judges won't have to struggle with the very limited selection, paraphrase Joey Barton.
Give her a few albums and her voice and style will hopefully shine.

Is that a six string pick up on her Martin?
