I highly recommend it. It gets my award for the mandolin that most exceeded my expectations. I had no prior experience with National instruments, but I had read good things about the RM-1 and came in to a little found money when an opportunity presented itself. Not surprisingly, the thing is loud, but the walnut body yields a tone that is surprisingly sweet, and despite its mass, it is surprisingly easy to play. It's funny, but I look at my collection and I can imagine getting down to one flattop or even one A5, but I never really think about getting rid of the National.
