Open Auditions For the Providence Mandolin Orchestra
The Providence Mandolin Orchestra is looking for players who are interested in rehearsing and performing classical and contemporary music for orchestra. The instruments in the orchestra include mandolin, mandola or octave mandolin, mandocello, guitar and bass..

    Requirements:
Ability to read music and to perform at least at an intermediate level on the instrument. This includes:
    1. Knowledge of basic scales

    2. Ability to adequately perform a sample piece (music provided prior to audition)
    3. Basic sight-reading, including melody and rhythm.
You must supply your own instrument.

We have several openings to be filled. Persons selected to join the orchestra at the performance level must commit to weekly rehearsals (September through May) and perform in our concerts three to four times a year. Persons who are unable to fulfill audition requirements but express a serious desire to improve may be invited to join the orchestra as a ‘rehearsal-only’ member.

Violin players who are interested in the mandolin are encouraged to audition.

For more information and to receive audition materials, please contact PMO Music Director Mark Davis at 860-455-2056.

Hey Mark: I would love to audition but I would be afraid that if I passed the audition then I would have a pretty long commute. Or I would have to move there. Maybe I will audition but with the guarantee that I not be accepted. How's that?

Seriously, I love PMO -- I think your orchestra is one of the very best in the country.

    Yes PMO is reliably fantastic.

I wish a serious mandolin orchestra were within within an hour or two of me here. I go that far for a jam.

I would work hard towards try out. Four and a fraction hours is too much.

Were I to be accepted to a classical music mandolin ensemble, orchestra or quartet or duet or all of these, I could easily (very easily) put all my jamming and folkie stuff on a back burner and just dig deeply into it.
A talent for trivializin' the momentous and complicatin' the obvious.

    The entire staff
    funny....
