    Default Remembering Alison Stephens

I began this morning listening to Nigel Gathere's lovely homage to Alison titled 'My Beautiful Mandolin Friend' and recalled what a charming person she was (in addition to being a superb mandolinist). I wrote my fourth mandolin concerto for Alison back in 2007, and although she seemed quite fond of it but she unfortunately never got a chance to premiere it before passing from us. I still have our correspondence from that time and cherish her comments very much. Composed in neo-classical style, it can be heard at http://www.craton.net/music/mandcon4.htm. I hope it does her memory justice.

I was just thinking of Alison this morning in another thread wondering if any of the mandolin glitterati participated on the forums, I remember she did on occasion and what a wonderful person she was here.

    Here's a video of Nigel's piece.

    Thanks for the rememberance, John.

I had some lovely correspondences with her and she was always ready to answer my questions and even sent me some music of pieces she played that I admired. I was trying to get her to come to the US to concertize, but that was not to be. So sad.
