Thread: Vivaldi's Largo from Winter

  1. #1

    Default Vivaldi's Largo from Winter

I made this arrangement many years ago. I transcribed and transposed to D (from the original E-flat) simply because E-flat is no fun on classical guitar. The impetus was the memorial service for a deceased Ohio State University librarian who happened to love this music. For that occasion, I played guitar to accompany a violinist. I decided to resurrect this for the current season. Here, I'm playing my 1914 Vega accompanied by the able Sheri Stanley on her Kolya Panhuyzen guitar. I hope you enjoy. I happily receive constructive criticism.

Excellent, Eugene, very idiomatic on the guitar part. You might consider doing a version of this for trio (M1, mandola in G, guitar -- or, alternatively, I think I could construct a mandola part by reading from the guitar part and extracting one of the lines).

Thanks! And feel free. I rarely have access to friends with mandola.

Very nice, Eugene, especially the guitar part!

Robert: There is a nice recording of the piece for mandolin, mandola and guitar arranged and played by Mark Linkins in this old thread from 2015:

The same thread also has my own recording on two mandolins and mandocello (recorded a bit earlier in 2015 using a string trio setting arranged by Wanda Sobieska). Both Mark and Wanda transposed to B Minor.
