It makes sense to me. The fretted note would most resemble the open one, as there is no change of material at the 'nut' end. Fretless instruments need a nut, but fretted ones (in theory) should sound more consistent with a zero fret. I wonder why it has been abandoned for the most part. Perhaps this is another discussion.

Installed a "keystone" in the rim at the tail block for #5 to match the Figured Maple stripe in the back. Wiped down with mineral spirits to see what it will look like. This Sapele is some good lookin' stuff!

Looks impressive. That remote idea is a stroke of genius. Can you clear and re-do finishes, too, or is it just for correcting mistooks?

All put back together. Ordered taller bridges to raise the action a bit and it will ready to play. I prefer playing these as a 4 stringer.

That is exceptionally cool! What is the scale length? Did you possiboy go for a loner than standard mandolin scale? Also what bracing did you use?

    Thanks Jim.
The customer wanted a 330mm scale, basically 13". It is strung with Thomastik (of course).
I went a little lighter on the bracing because it has only 4 strings.
