Hey, just wanted to let anyone in the southwest MO area know of a cool event we're having at The Chapmans Acoustic Shoppe Saturday 9/13. David Harvey will be bringing some of his collection as well as Frank Ray to this event. Along with their private collections, we'll be exhibiting 23 turn of the century Gibson mandolins that were recently brought to our shop to find new homes. Included in this group is an Oct 7, 1924 signed Loyd Loar H5 Mandola!

Big Acoustic Shoppe News #2...
The Chapmans reveal musical treasure trove at The Acoustic Shoppe! $1,000,000 worth of Gibson Instruments on display!
Charged with the task of researching, restoring, and finding a home for over 20 Gibson, Martin and other instruments dating all the way back to 1910, The Chapmans Acoustic Shoppe is going to be hosting a showcase and Seminar featuring David Harvey, head of the Mandolin division at Gibson Instruments on Saturday September 13th at 4pm featuring nearly $1,000,000 of historic instruments.
The prize item found in the stockpile is a 1924 Gibson Signed Loyd Loar H5 Mandola, one of the rarest and most collectable among the Mandolin Family, there are now only 21 known and accounted for, some of which have sold for over $100,000.
The instruments were brought to The Chapmans Acoustic Shoppe early in 2014 by their owner Michael Savage, whose father “Doc” Savage was an authorized Gibson repairman in Louisiana back in the 1950’s where many of the instruments were acquired.
‘Daddy was always working on instruments; he used to keep track of repairs by writing the name of the owner on the shop wall with the total they owed. When they would make their final payment, he would paint back over their name’ -says Savage.
Excited by this “mini museum” of turn of the century musical instruments, the guys at The Acoustic Shoppe got down to business looking up serial numbers, figuring out dates, models, and prices on each instrument. Once they had a good idea about what they had, they contacted an old friend David Harvey who happens to head up the Mandolin department with Gibson Instruments. Jeremy Chapman along with Acoustic Shoppe partner Gene Hoke packed up the instruments and headed to Nashville to get David’s opinion.
“We spent a few hours going over the instruments, what was original, what needed repaired, what they were worth in their current condition, and what they would be worth after restoration. We were so impressed with David’s knowledge about each instrument, that we asked if he could come do a seminar about what we had, as well as bring some of his own collection” -says Jeremy.
Along with the Savage collection, David Harvey and friend Frank Ray will be bringing, two 1924 F5 Loyd Loar Mandolins, valued at over $550,000, a 1921 “Bellson” F4, 1915 H-4 Mandola, 1915 K-4 Mandocello, a “teens” A-2, A-3, and A-4, 1960’s A-5, a 2008 July 9th Master Model F-5 (85 years to the day of Bill Monroe’s Loar) and more.
The Savage collection includes: A 1910 F2, 1914 F4, 1916 A4, 1916 A1, two 1919 A2’s, 1920 F4, 1922 A2, 1922 TB1 Banjo, 1920’s TB2 Banjo, 1928 Gibson UKE1 Ukulele, 1932 Epiphone Adelphi Mandolin, 1938 Martin 0-17-T Guitar, 1957 Gibson Archtop Tenor Guitar, 1962 Gibson Hummingbird Guitar, 1966 EM250 Gibson Florintine Mandolin, and many others.
This will be a once in a lifetime event for the Ozarks. The seminar will be held at The Acoustic Shoppe Saturday September 13th at 4pm. You can come view the instruments on display Mon the 8th up till the event. Tickets are $15 or $12 for GOBS Members.
