Visiting Master Instrument Maker Steve Gilchrist
I drove for around 2 and half hours out of Melbourne yesterday to visit Steve Gilchrist , Master instrument maker. He was doing the final touches to a bunch of instruments he is taking to Carters very soon.I now have a new standard of excellence to judge mandolin tone by after hearing his new mandolins. There were a bunch of arch top guitars which sounded great, several mandolins which were awesome, plus an octave mando and one Mandocello that i saw.Steve was extremely generous with his time and advice. It was a great experience..Thanks Steve Gilchrist. btw..he is a great player himself which I sense gives him a greater understanding of the instruments he is making. Here he is featuring the mandocello.
