Default Eamon Dorley playing with Julie Fowlis

I have been trying to find some decent youtube videos of a Joe Foley bouzouki.

I came across Julie Fowlis with Eamon Dorley whoc plays a Foley bouzouki. He has a nice deft touch and I really dig the Hebridean upbeat music.

Here is another one of her famous songs. Eamon plays a nice intro.

And here is one with just Eamon accompanying her:

I really like his simple accompaniment. It really brings out the Irish Bouzouki sound. Love the sound of the Foley bouzouki.

Fantastic, thanks for this Nick! No question Foley is a master. I have NO idea what sort of prices he's charging nowadays or what his wait list is like. I have most of the Danu albums I think, and definitely one of my most-desired instruments from what I've seen and heard

Lack of money is the root of all evil. For lack of money, I can't be in Ballydehob, Co. Cork where my O'Driscoll ancestors come from, on my birthday next year, to see De Danann play at the annual Ballydehob Traditional Music Festival. For lack of money, I couldn't even buy a $300 plane ticket to see Irvine and Lunny at the Edmonton Folk Fest this year.

Ah well, whatever doesn't kill you I guess...

I have two of her CDs and think they’re brilliant; however I always laugh when I remember my very young daughter going round the house singing "Biodh An Deoch Seo 'N Làimh Mo Rùin” as ”In Yorkshire my Balloon…"
"Danger! Do Not Touch!" must be one of the scariest things to read in Braille....

I've done a couple of workshops with Eamon - he's a terrific player and a lovely guy too. I think his playing is well worth studying - he has a great take on how to use bouzouki in this music. He also now has a guitar-boddied bouzouki from Stefan Sobell - think there may be one or two recent YouTube clips featuring that instrument. See, e.g., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRH5040JhmY

(Minor pedantry note: his surname is spelled Doorley, in case that helps for searches!)

Thanks Niall for checking on my spelling. Basically, I have listened to a lot of bouzouki players and Eamon (Doorley) beats them hands down when it comes to sensitive clear simple accompaniment on a bouzouki. I have learnt a lot watching him on the videos. There is something magical he does when he plays a bouzouki.

Yes I have watched the Youtube video you mentioned. I prefer his Joe Foley bouzouki in earlier videos.

BTW Colin which CDs of Julie Fowlis do you have?

I just had to add this one. My love is on the high seas.
Julie Fowlis's baby is fast asleep while she sings.

If she sang to me, I'd be fast asleep too!
