    Default Cittern nut width

    Folks, for my sins I'm putting together a 10 string mandocello/OM, and I'm trying to figure out what width the neck needs to be... now if I take Mike Marshall's 'cello nut tracing, and Graham MacDonald's OM nut spacing and splice them together I end up with a 48mm nut width which seems awful wide? Looking online, I see Fylde use a 44mm nut on all their citterns which seems more sensible, but I worry there'll be no space for those monster C strings. I suspect both could be made to work, but does anyone have any real experience of these beasts?

    If you have a Facebook account, send a message to Nigel Richard, who is an instrument maker (making mostly bagpipes) living near Edinburgh. He made his own cittern which he plays professionally, and will surely share what knowledge he has with you.

    I've had good results using a 40mm nut width:
