Off topic.... but what am I missing about Steve Earl?

First of all, you're missing the final "E" in his last name. Secondly, you're missing the context of the phrase you quoted:

the fiddler in Steve Earle And The Dukes used a LOT of tremolo.

The point I was making has everything to do with violin technique and very little to do with Steve Earle, and was in reference to some earlier points in the discussion on this thread. Thirdly, you're missing this current thread, where discussing him will be more on topic.

Eleanor Whitmore and her husband Chris Masterson (also a Duke) have their own band called The Mastersons. Besides fiddle, Eleanor also plays mandolin, and tenor guitar. Here is a great song with her on lead vocals and an Eastwood Warren Ellis electric tenor guitar.

Chris Masterson played guitar with Lucinda Williams in the 90s (I am pretty sure he is playing a 12 string electric with Lucinda in videos of the sessions at west 54th street performance).

I love his playing.
