My offering for the festive season !
Wassailing was originally a 12th night tradition when fruit trees were blessed to ensure a good harvest. Several counties of England had their own version of the Wassailing tradition. It became the more general activity of 'carol singing' - going from house to house (or ale house to ale house) singing Christmas carols and other seasonal songs (and drinking lots of beer or cider !!)

My version of the Gloucestershire Wassail is for mandolin quartet/orchestra. The last run through of the tune is the harmonisation written by the English composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams
