Default Hal Leonard Irish Bouzouki Method

Just in time for the holidays and your list for Santa comes a book that is perfect for the bouzouki players among us. The new Hal Leonard book has been written by Roger Landes. Here is the link.

A bit more info here at Mandolin Cafe.

    Great price too.

Roger is a great instructor and I am looking forward to getting a copy.

Thanks for the heads up John, just ordered a copy. That'll be my Christmas present to myself this year.

There is -but it's to a US importer listing on Amazon, still not a bad price ~£6.50, assuming he really has a copy.

I assume the cost is lower than a lot of similar type books because the audio is online. I like that approach. I have not bought a copy yet. Does anyone know if you can download the audio, or do you have to use it online?

    John,

I don't know the answer to that but I will ask the Hal Leonard that tomorrow and get back to you.

BTW, since this is the first Irish bouzouki book Hal Leonard has published it starts at the beginning and does not assume the reader has any prior experience with the instrument or with music (that is a set HL policy for all their first books). That said it does give the basics of an approach to accompanying Irish trad tunes on the bouzouki in GDAD tuning. For more experienced players it might be covering familiar territory but I think there will be something in there for most players. HL has said that if this one sells well they will authorize a second volume, etc., and perhaps an instructional DVD.

Ordering my copy too! Thanks Roger!

UPDATE: The flip.xxxxxxxxx.com ordering system is horribly slow, and I've had to cancel the request several time. Until this is working normally, I'm holding out. (I'm not wild about the mismatched SSL certificate common name either )

If Hal Leonard's system is anything like Mel Bay, the audio will be available for download when you enter the Access Code that should come with the book. If nobody else knows by then, I'll post here letting you know when mine arrives from the Canada's Music Time online shop.

Roger, can you tell us if the book has just been published? I haven't been billed for mine yet, meaning it hasn't been shipped, but more to the point Rob is saying Amazon is backordered. Is it just that Hal Leonard hasn't shipped them out to all the retailers yet do you think?

Edit: just received my own backorder confirmation email.

    FYI:

    The book is shipping now.

Audio can be streamed or downloaded from the website with the access code in book.

Would this book be equally valuable for regular OM players, or is it specific to the 'zouk?

I don't actually own a 'zouk or an OM, but will be getting a cittern shortly, so I'll be applying the techniques to that instrument; I've perused it thoroughly and honestly, it's a valuable addition to the learning arsenal of any CBOM owner, IMHO.

(NFI, just hope someday to build a wicked sweet looking 'zouk like on the cover! )

Mine arrived this week and I LOVE it! Just the resource I need at this phase in my learning. Five stars, highly recommended, and all that.

I feel like a total klutz in the down-up-down picking exercises. Anyone have any hints other than practice makes better?

Also, is there a way to slow down the exercise tracks on the Hal Leonard website? I can't find it if there is.
