    Hey folks-

I just saw an ad on the classifieds here for an old Gibson. Some woman in South Carolina wanted $1700 for it so she could get her car painted. She thought it was a Model 1923 - at least she said that was on the label - I think her last name was Wolfe. I was about to respond and ask her if it was a solid top or laminated but the ad mysteriously disappeared.

If I was her husband I'd be making a trip to the paint store right now. A tip on car painting: Use a good brush around the windows - save the roller for big areas like the hood and roof. Yellow always looks nice.

I ended up with the mandolin. I traded her a paint job for it. We are both happy

Actually, Scott paid her for the paint job in return for deleting the ad

MWM is right; yellow does look good, especially on the top of an old D-28 I saw years ago. The fellow had used house paint to refinish the top on his '50s D-28; it was about the color of the smiley faces here at the cafe forum, and he swore that it didn't hurt the tone a bit, and he thought it sounded every bit as good as "those other fellas' herringbones."
