Thread: nut width and string spacing at the saddle

Default nut width and string spacing at the saddle

Folks, any of you have a vintage Gibson acoustic tenor? I'm thinking of making one and I'd like to know a few specs if possible - nut width, the string spacing at the saddle and the scale.

    Thanks!

There are quite a few models out there! You might benifit from being a bit more specific about what you want to build.

No sorry I don't but I am interested to know if you are going to build an arch top design?

ID:	132369On my 1929 (or so) TG-0 here's what I come up with, string spacing measured center of strings:

    1 5/32" nut width
    15/16 string spacing at nut
1 11/32 string spacing at saddle
22 7/8 scale length (same treble and bass)

If you're more interested in archtop I've got a 1950 TG-50 I can dig out.

No, this will be a tenor version of my new Session King guitar.

Thanks for that, no need for the archtop.

That is interesting, good luck with the build.

Personally I prefer slightly wider spacing especially at the bridge end, as a tenor banjo player I don't have any issues with narrow spacing but on any of my custom guitars I much prefer wider spacing.
I like the ease of finger picking & strumming seems to have a nice effect with wider string spacing.

A tenor version of the Session King! Sounds terrific, maybe the Session Jack... Session Jester? Scaled down in all dimensions? I'll be very curious to see what you create!

Well, I shall base it on my guitar bouzouki body - I've got one on the shelf waiting for a soundboard. I'll be starting the first batch of SK's soon (still waiting for the last two slots to fill) and I may well slip this one in amongst them.

I'm probably way too late on this one, I have a Gibson 1935 00 tenor. An a Martin T17 from 1959. I mentioned these in another thread, they're lovely but petty quiet for a session. Actually should have read the whole thread above, I see you seem to be sorted. Ya know what ,I might sell both tenors and get a Session King (Tenor), looks and sounds fantastic. Love the reliced look, reminds me of me Gibson.
