Default New Blues Mandolin album - preview track

    Hi Folks,

We will be releasing my twelfth album and this the fourth one featuring blues mandolin, this time as a band effort, with Bert Deivert & Copperhead Run. "Blood in My Eyes for You". You can listen to the opening track here: https://rootsy.bandcamp.com/track/baby-please-dont-go

As always, my main influences are Yank Rachell and Carl Martin.

    all the best,
    BERT

Great recording Bert! You certainly capture that old-school blues sound. What mandolin did you use on the track?

    Hi Sam,
Thanks for the kind words. I used the 2008 National RM-1 and a stereo set of Neumann mikes. Acoustic recording of the mandolin. I have a hotplate pickup on it for live gigs but NEVER record with it.
    Cheers,
    BERT

    thanks Shaun!
We have had great reviews! The thing that made me feel best was in a Belgian roots magazine.

No, Bert, I haven't seen the reviews. I will see if I can get a copy of the Flemish magazine.

This discussion ought to be on the General Mandolin Discussions page, where it would reach a lot more people - because this wonderful album deserves wider awareness among mandolin players.

Bert, you ought to start a new thread that combines all the purchasing links and provides links to some of the great reviews you've been getting - and the excellent YouTube clips from the CD launch party.

    Bert,
It's a great album, I just bought a copy. Did you record all of it in standard tunings or are some tracks in E tuning a-la Yank Rachell? This could save me a lot of time in de-coding your licks, and thanks again for some really hot blues.
    All the best,
    Blake

Hi Blake, sorry haven't logged in for awhile, been on tour. Thanks for helping us on the road with the album purchase! Glad you like it.
Everything on this is recorded in standard tuning!
Previous albums I have made were in mixed - some mandolins tuned down to E and some in standard. However I found that I forgot which mandolin I was using onstage and switched back to standard a few years ago. I do like tuning down to E though!!! So those E things are in standard tuning. After playing with a band in Bangkok for years, I find E an easy key now, due to their E songs... cheers, BERT
