Manfredini (1718): Christmas Concerto - Largo
Francesco Onofrio Manfredini (1684-1762):
Concerto grosso per il santissimo natale, Op. 3, No. 12/2
II. Largo
This Christmas Concerto is the best-known piece by the Italian Baroque composer Francesco Manfredini. Although it is described as a concerto grosso, for the second movement (Largo), the soloists are tacet and the movement is therefore simply scored as a string quartet.
I am playing the Largo as a mandolin quartet of two bowlback mandolins, octave mandolin (mandola) and mandocello.

Re: Manfredini (1718): Christmas Concerto - Largo
I recorded this staple of the Baroque Christmas repertoire rather out of season back in May. Now that we have entered advent, I may be excused a bump as it's now finally the right season for it. Lovely piece to play, and fairly straightforward directly from the IMSLP score. We've recently played it for the first time with our group, and it works just fine as a live ensemble piece.

Re: Manfredini (1718): Christmas Concerto - Largo
This being the season, I have just revisited Manfredini's Christmas Concerto, this time with the mandocello taking the lead and ditching the tremolo I used back in 2015. Played single stroke on mandolins, it has tonality of Christmas chimes.
Happy Christmas to all on the Cafe!

Thanks for the holiday music. I've downloaded the score from your original post -- something fun to play with on Christmas Eve.
Thanks for this year's wonderful video performances of music from off the (i.e., my) beaten track. Best for the holidays!
