Default Col. Sanders ad, a little creepy?

Has anyone else seen the last KFC commercial? The Col. is sitting in front of a bunch of kids playing mandolins, faking playing, and he's pitching the product.
What I find creepy is the weird fake Col. It's just a little unnerving, the guy looks just enough off to make me uneasy, a bit wax like.

Not so much creepy..........as profoundly disturbing! What in the heck WAS that? What brainiac thought that was was a good concept and pitched it and got it on the TV?

    i had a similar reaction
in my case , it is to his accent as well as his overall look

to my yankee ear , its not southern,
and, theres something about his demeanor too

but I am guessing none of this is accidental, as we are not the target demographic....
im not a fast food /chain food buyer....
old white dudes dressing and talking like plantation owners probably has gone its course.....\

the women who speaks for Popeye's Lousiana has more legitimacy to me....
even though I wouldn't dare eat that stuff, she sure makes it sound and appear appealing on the tube.

Face it, most of the audience only knows what Col. Sanders looks like from the drawing on the tub. Most of the audience isn't old enough to have ever seen him alive, and many probably don't even know he was a real person.

So the only one's creeped out are old folks. Which is not the sales audience. We are past the demographic the advertisers care about.

I saw it too, and my first reaction was that it was hokey, to the point of being disrespectful to Col. Sanders' memory. Like they were trying to parody his image and make fun of him.

Old enough to remember colonel sanders, the person. Col. Angus, a SNL star with Christopher Walken, and can appreciate this commercial:

Thanks to that website I now know that Col. Sanders shot a man in the shoulder...but his friend died. Should be a Bluegrass song!

Thanks Jeff, now I do feel as old as I am!
I guess it was the accent that put me off too, it's not a Kentucky accent, just kind of a fat (Harland Sanders was not fat) attempt at what might have been a really good pitch.
I have not had a piece of the product in thirty years, this won't get me back in the door.

I think Darrell Hammond (from SNL) is an epic new (creepy) Col Sanders. The campaign is working if we're talking about it and posting it on the Cafe.

I don't think he looks like Harland Sanders or sounds like him. But that is ok I don't have to pay the ad agency or the networks to air it.

Must be a ploy by KFC to break into the mandolin market; I wouldn't have known anything about this if it weren't for the Cafe. :-)

Kentucky fried mandolins with eleven secret spicy string innovations?
You do make a very good point Jamie, if we, the mandolin subculture, are talking about it, it must have worked as an ad ploy for some poor suckers who think that stuff they sell now is anything like the original product.

I don't eat there. Did they have a corporate takeover and change the recipe or something? When did this happen?

I'm shocked - shocked! - to learn there is a failure to communicate the stuff that dreams are made of. That is, the history and legacy of the close and tender bond between Colonel Sanders and the mandolin.

Jeff, the demographic of a typical KFC consumer is between 25-54 years old, with the majority earning between $50-60K who are married with children. Isn't Google amazing!

My point exactly. Nothing new - well, I guess the ad is new. I don't believe it was ever determined in that thread exactly why The Colonel was so taken with the mandolin, although since this is the Mandolin Café, a lot of speculation and conjecture was offered. I believe someone pointed out that both Mr. Sanders and Mr. Monroe hail from the Blue Grass State.

There is at least one big difference between the mandolinists in the spot and the album cover - it's safe to assume that the latter group is composed of people who actually play mandolin!

Hey, the two in the middle on the commercial (boy & girl), are siblings Danielle and Michael(?) Wimberly of the SoCal bluegrass band The Wimberlys...pretty cool...she's a good picker and they both play mando, fiddle, guitar, etc. I believe Danielle is also a Weber endorsed artist...
