Default Jarosz Gets Trad. - New Video

Besides showing off my own work - I think this new one might interest those of us who have followed Sarah Jarosz's phenomenal growth as a picker and songwriter. Playing with this crew seems to scratch an itch for SJ - to keep her hand in the bluegrass tradition that inspired her as a 'kid'.

Wow! What an amazing group, I would definitely call that a bluegrass throwdown!

That band will be tearing it up Friday at Grey Fox BG Festival - I wish I could be there. SJ is elsewhere and so Chris Eldridge will be sitting in on mandolin and NYC bluegrass diva, Jen Larson covering those high harmonies. I've only seen Critter perform on mando, once. I guess when you've got Thile in your main band...

Sarah.....she is amazing, in any genre.....
    pipes like no other

have seen her playing duets with many mando mensches , including Sierra, and Sarah has got serious chops, (not necessarily showcased in the above clip BTW)

Michael always seems to have turbo charged boogie-woogie lurking somewhere in his bluegrass

Hard to go wrong being in a band with Michael Daves! Both he and Sarah have voices that can cut steel - -great pairing on this song.

Great video, thanks for posting. I love watching that guy play the guitar. He just about devours the thing. I've seen all those faces in multiple settings over the past few years (except for the bass player) and it make me realize just how much music these folks must be playing. Must be a pretty interesting way of life.

Great job Brad. I really like your videos. You´re bringing the right kind of music to the people.

Also, I really like Sarah Jaroz. I especially like that the young ladies (SJ and SH for example) sound different.

Sounds like "trad" 50's rock n roll with BG instruments to me, which I like a lot. Great band and great video Brad!!

I have to agree with Len B., I didn`t hear much that was the traditional sound...BUT...It is good listening, good pickers doing a good song...

Well, when it comes down to Sarah's solo, I'd say the all-downstroke portion evokes a certain founder of bluegrass - although you might say that the rhythm chording at the start of her break is right there with today's young guns.

That's Mike Bub. Legendary. Was with Del McCoury for many years. I think now he plays with many people - I saw him playing with Shawn Camp last year.

I finally got to hear a recording of the band from Grey Fox a few weeks back. Critter did a fine job on mandolin in that set. He didn't show that amazing technical mastery he has on 6-string, but played some very nice and musical lines on mandolin, I thought. Must have used that thing he has... talent!
