FWIW I've shipped my wooden penny whistles to Canada for many years with no problems using USPS. Granted, they're small and easy to pack safely.
I just list them as "penny whistle" on the customs form with no mention of the material. I've done that out of laziness, not CITES ;-).

Can definitely help. Have very fast car. Live near border. Can toss a mandolin case 50 feet. Willing to work nights in the field. Accepts Blue Chip picks as form of payment.

Apropos of the above: my paternal grandfather had a fruit farm in Youngstown NY, on the Niagara River. During Prohibition he reportedly made a bit of extra cash accepting night-time liquor shipments from Ontario bootleggers. Perhaps we can bootleg mandolins, strings and picks?

Anyone want to explain why so many sellers will only ship to the continental US? What are the problems with shipping to Alaska or Hawaii? I can understand charging a slightly higher price if buyer is paying shipping, but that would be fine.

When I list items for sale online I only ship to Cont USA because it is easy and I am lazy.

There's a lot of cigarette smuggling and tax avoidance that goes on today in Indian reservations that are near the U.S. / Canada border. On the Mexican border it's mostly in the hands of the cartels but I don't think they've moved into mandolins yet!

The good news for Canadians is; Graham McDonald's book The Mandolin - a history, does ship to Canada and all other parts of the globe. Hopefully many copies will be Canada bound by the end of the year.

    Could be "for repair --$50.00

Well, we've had a pretty good run on this thread. No hurt feelings, and such

One good reason, and me last one as to why no shipping to Kanukistan: Our dollar is trading at about seventy seven cents US.
That's a deal killer for me at least. Unless someone has the ear of our finance minister, just have ta wait it out. Hopefully the sun'll rise tomorrow.
    Take care mando friends.

This morning on CBC they were talking about the tourist industry being helped by the weak loonie. Lot's of Americans visiting Canada and Canadian's vacationing at home instead of abroad because of that exchange rate.

Only about 70ish more 'sleeps' until we have a new finance minister.
