Man that video is great!
Thanks so much for posting that.
Well, guess I'll have to dig up some photos of #1 to post now...... 😃
That would be great Lynn!
F5joe tell us a little about your video.
Is that your dude? How did you come across that amazing instrument
How did Adam Steffey come across the chance to play it?
Was that Lynn's workshop? I'd love to see more of this instrument.
Pictures or videos.
Yes, my Dude. Lynn finished #2 in 1996 for me. I requested a Fern Loar concept and got it. Adam was in town visiting and he let me make that video last December. Here are a few pics.

Oh wow! What a beautiful machine...
Is that a red spruce top?
Yes, red spruce. Thanks
I should add that all the pearl, including his name, is hand cut.

I've never played a red spruce Dude...
I've played a Carpathian top and and a few
Englemanns including my own...
f5joe, that Dude is a beauty!
Seems like you have, or at least have had a lot of very nice F5s. Thanks for showing them off!
Its nice to see hand cut inlays these days. I see so much CNC anymore. I appreciate the slight non-symmetrical look. It gives it more of a human factor in my view. Very nice!

Id love to see more pics and vids. Some go A's would be nice to see aswell. And Lynn, we're waiting on pics of #1
Yow! Thats one heck of a #2 instrument, Lynn! Had you been building instruments (or other woodworking experience) beforehand?
I'll add my name to the list of people eagerly awaiting some more information on #1!
Thanks,
Baron

OK, here goes. I hope my link works. This is from the Mandolin Symposium in 2012. Mike Marshall needed a mandolin with a strap for this one song on the final night of the Symposium. I'd removed a pick-up jack earlier in the day for him that was attached to the tailpiece, and found the end pin hole was enlarged to accommodate a jack at some point. I didn't have anything to plug it with so he was out of luck that night for a strap on the Loar. I loaned him my mandolin (#1, which I've kept all these years). Obviously, this was one of those "Symposium moments" I'll never forget! I'll get some photos up soon.
Baron, I'd built 3 or 4 dulcimers and about 16 guitars at this point. I built #1 and F5Joe's #2 at the same time. Same materials except our maple came from different sources. I used a really fine July 9th '23 as my pattern. I later found out it was the same mandolin Mike Kemnitzer borrowed in Colorado to use as a pattern for his first mandolins. I got to visit with Mike's #1 and it's original owner at the Symposium about 2011. Mike knocked it out of the park on his first one! Maybe there is something really special about that Loar that both of use studied?
By the way, that's Don Stiernberg, Jesse Cobb, Dawg, Mike Marshall, Tracy Grisman and Eric Thompson in the video. Dawg is playing Crusher here.

One more.... Jesse Cobb with Dude #1 and Solly Burton with #8. This was at the Symposium in 2012 as well. I'd not met Solly before and he came in and asked to try my instruments. Before long, Jesse came in and picked up #1 and started playing. (Another "Symposium moment"!). I asked permission to post this video and they both were kind enough to allow it. (Disclaimer... NOT an endorsement!)
Yeh Larry I'm hoping Lynn can add faux frets to this when I send it over for a set-up too. Originally it had the two extra frets, but then those two frets were scooped out but never replaced with faux frets. Lynn it's possible to add these in correct?
And Lynn, thanks for posting those two videos.... Awesome, I can't believe that was your #1 mando.....
I'll just have to see it....but most likely, it's possible. Are the slots there or have they been filled?
