Well it looks to me like they've filled it. It seems like there is plenty of fingerboard there work with. I would just love to see that space file with plastic faux frets.

Here are pics of #63. Engelmann over Red Spruce. Top is from the same logs as Chris Thile's #5 and #14. Here is a video of Travis Burch playing the instrument before Lynn scooped the fretboard and added markers for me:

Thanks Mitch. The back looks quite three dimensional as you turn it. Sounds pretty darn AWESOME too...well, maybe not so much in my hands. :-)

Obviously there is a typo below...it's Engelmann over Red MAPLE, not Red Spruce...

Actually...I'd LOVE to have one of these "Dude" peg winders too. Lynn promises to send me one when he makes a new batch. I guess for now, I need to be satisfied with only one "Dude" (an actual mando).

Ok so here’s the story and why I want yours. About 4 years ago I posted an ad for a Dudenbostel after unwillingly having to part with my other Dude (Tragic story really) So the gentleman who reached out to me was the gentleman that you bought it from. Anyhow, for my birthday my wife and I were going to take a trip to New York to purchase #63. We had planned an entire day around it and I was over the moon. Well, as we were getting ready to head out I received an email from the seller stating he decided to hang onto it and would give me first dibs should he change his mind. I was devastated and at the time I was pissed but honestly the guy had a right to change his mind and I knew that but I’ll admit I’m a bit disappointed knowing the situation he didn’t eventually reach out to me. In fact, I emailed him two weeks ago asking if he was ready to sell to me and he said he had sold it earlier this year. I’m happy for you but honestly I had been hanging onto this one for a while so it stings. Again congrats and you must have been meant to end up with it otherwise I’d be owning it right now. So all that being said, should you decide to part with it please consider letting me know first. So there’s my sob story.

Oh my goodness Demetrius. What a story! I'm sorry it didn't work out for you on #63. And I will keep you in mind if things ever change. On the other hand...perhaps this is fate indicating that a different Dude is your destiny. For example, there is Lynn's version of "Crusher" at Carter's:

Wishing you happy hunting in finding the right Dude.
