Being a total newb to mando, I've just been using the Martin mandolin strings found in one of the two music stores available here. I've gone for the lighter gauge usually (10's) and have had no complaints with these, but will be ordering some of the suggestios from here i order to compare a few.

I've been enjoying GHS A270s on my mandolin. I got about three months out of the last set before they started showing signs of age.

Strings and chords, heavy playing .

I must admit that after playing guitar and moving on to Mandolin ,which to be totally honest I have always loved the sound of and I kind of get the idea that many guitarists feel the same. Why has It taken so long to go from guitar to Mandolin.I feel that I have wasted time because when we played a country song the Mandolin would have added so much more to the sound .
I have been listening for the last 30 years to Chris Hillman and Marty Stuart, and the rest of those pickers .I play and sing Steve Goodman and John Prine songs ,Hoyt Axton songs best I can. Geronimo's Cadilac ,love it.

The Kentuckys I had really liked D'Addario EXP74s.
