You do know they are appointment only now right?

By the way, you might want to add tolls to your offer. You're going to pay one way over the bridge and it will be about $20.00 if I recall.

Throw in a set of strings, too. Make it two, too, to make it more tempting. Oh, plus tolls.

I believe that in the recent Cafe story it was mentioned that Stan's wife has decided to sell the business and is looking for a buyer.

If you want a great alternative that is closer and no tolls, check out Retro Fret in Brooklyn while you are in the area. When you get there, you'll probably wish that you had more time:

Retrofret - New York String Service
233 Butler Street | Brooklyn, New York, 11217

If you check with them, I'm sure you could get there in about an hour by taking a train from JFK, or just grab a cab or Uber it.

Just a half-mile walk (being 10 short blocks) from the Nevins Street subway stop. Quick reference on a map is that it's near the head of the Gowanus Canal.

Here is some info about taking to JFK Airtrain to the subway:

    http://explorebk.com/2015/02/05/get-...train-bus-car/

Subway fare is $2.75 each way, and will take about an hour and back with the walk to the subway station. It will probably take that long just to go through the inventory on their web site. It is quite an experience to go there, and you can see and play an amazing assortment of all kinds of instruments. Enjoy the trip, have fun, and post your impressions!
