Thread: Alternative Clips for ATM350

    Default Alternative Clips for ATM350

Has anyone tried using different clips with an ATM350 (or similar AT) mic?

I'm trying to clip an ATM350 to an F-style mandolin. More particularly, I'd like to clip the mic to a McClung armrest, positioning the mic at the bottom of the treble F-hole. The problem is that the mic clip's pads are too thick (or the armrest is too thick) for the clip to grab the armrest.

It looks like it should be possible to unscrew the clip from the gooseneck -- has anyone has tried doing so and replacing the original clip?

Does anyone make and sell alternative clips?

Note: I have a tone-gard as well, and I've tried clipping the mic to tone-gard near the treble F-hole. But the gooseneck seems to me to be too short to get the mic aimed at the F-hole (I can get the mic parallel to the F-hole, but not perpendicular to it).

The DPA VC4099 can be used with the ATM350/PRO35.

It is a bit loose initially, in how it grips the gooseneck, but this is easy to fix with tape or a spot of hot glue. The original 'clamp' clip unscrews (you will need a fine jeweler's screwdriver).

Hi Dom. If you look at this thread, there are some suggestions, including mounting the mic on a spare tailpiece cover and simply swapping covers when you want to plug in. http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/sh...echnica-ATM350

Also... I have just been experimenting... you can get a very good, non-damaging and solid connection to the DPA VC4099 using a small cable tie. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

The underside of the McClung can be routed out for the clip. You can send it to me along with $3 for return postage.

Here's a neat and easy way to use the DPA clip with the ATM350 or PRO35.

All it takes is one plastic cable tie.

The original clip does not need to be removed, and does not get in the way.

    Really works well!

Doug, thank you! Routing out the McClung for the clip sounds wonderful (I was wondering how Chris Thile attached his clip to the armrest). I will mail the armrest (Ebony 3) back to you today with return postage.

Also, thanks almeriastrings for the suggestions and pictures -- I love the cable tie idea. And thanks, Tim, for the link to the thread -- that's a good one.
