    Default Tone-Gard Differences

Quick question .... on the Tone-Gard website, there are two standard designs to choose from .... DecoGard and SunriseGard. Is the only difference between the two esthetics, or is there anything else different between them? I have an Eastman MD804 that I want to get one for and also a McClung armrest. Would either design work with the armrest? Thanks!

I have a tone-gard and a McClung and have no problems. As far as I know, the TG differences are aesthetic only.

I know you'll enjoy your new accessories!

I'll second what Dave said. I think the designs are only different on the back where it doesn't touch the mandolin. Just different artistic designs.

I have a McClung armrest on with my ToneGard too, and they work together. I did have to relocate one of the pads on the ToneGard so it wouldn't interfere with the armrest bracket, but it was no biggie. The pad locations are not critical.

I believe you can get the ToneGard in either style in one of two sizes. The older Gibsons needed a larger size. He will build you a custom design of your own out of a lighter tubing if wanted. The feather weight feel of my instrument before adding the Gard and arm rest is still missed at times.

It could be worse. You could be playing a resonator banjo...

Good Morning Paul. You make an excellent point. The weight reduction is probably not very noticeable from Steel to Aluminum.
