    Default New Years Resolutions

This year, no matter who tempted, I will refrain from commenting on:

thick round picks and the lack of actual pick attack when used for tremolo

the dull sound of flatwound strings, particularly on a bowlback

that Greek bouzoukis are the real thing and the Irish instrument that really is a variety of octave mandolin stole its name

Blue Chip picks being overrated and over-priced

that a mandolin does not need a strap

that players of Swing and Gypsy jazz need to accept that they also have to be straight jazz players

This should be a relief to you guys!

P.S. I forgot - no more complaining about scooped or missing fingerboard extensions - if you don't want to have a full range, it's not my problem!

    Peace, and Happy New Year!

David, in case you were wondering, seriously for a moment - I think your points of view have been valuable. A valuable contribution to the discussions echoing through these halls. Like opening the window and letting in some air - it smells a little funny at first, but the whole café environment benefits.

So I, for one (and I am sure I am not the only one) look forward to your comments and thoughts and speculations in this next year and would hope for no abatement.

My new years resolution is to perform, in public, somewhere, sometime in the next year (2016), both the Allegro part of Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in A minor, and the Gigue part of Victor Kioulaphides' Suite for Ali. I will do it.

I further resolve to refrain from talking about it. Just gonna do it.

Frankly, I'm surprised by and am also very appreciative of your kind words about my oddball opinions. Thanks.

Well since you went and stole mine, I guess I'll have to come up with another one.

    David,

Keep the faith baby, keep the faith!

As for me, I have one overriding goal for 2016: to continue to chase perfection with the expectation that eventually I'll catch excellence!

What? The Greeks have bouzoukis too? Surely you jest!

Nah, keep 'em coming, its' what keeps the forum interesting!

    My resolutions would be:

    * Stop disagreeing so much on the forum
    * Find a way to get my elbow fixed so I can stop playing bad slide guitar and get back to mandolin!

My resolutions are always the same... 1) walk like a member of the Fat Albert Gang at least once daily and 2) have more people submit to my will.

I resolve to improve my playing on Bach, Calace, and to get through more of my classical mandolin music.
I resolve to improve my playing on my classical guitar.
I resolve to try to keep my MAS under control (please note "try" - no promises!)
I resolve to "try" to resist temptation!!!! (by avoiding the classifieds and other mandolin for sale sites)

Happy New Year to all!!! I intend to spend New Year's Eve and day playing my mandos! Can't think of a better way to start the New Year!

    David,
I think I am close to your worst nightmare.
I use a (1) rounded (2) Blue chip pick with (3) flatwound strings, and (4) I cut the extension off of my fret board.
I somehow feel the need to apologize to you.
    Peace and Happy New Year!

    PS...I also need a strap

No apology - I sort of should be sorry for going on about my own opinions! Enjoy whatever way to play mandolin makes you happy.
    Cheers!

My New Year's resolution is to only practice when my wife is not at home ! I did buy her a pair of headphones with a radio built in so she may put on when I am practicing in a motel room while we travel. Seems to work and save a marriage !
