Default easiest way to re-size a photo for uploading

I seem to be having trouble up-loading photos lately. They are too large but I can't remember (senior moment early) how I used to re-size them. Any help is appreciated.

In case it matters they are in my "My Photo" on my desktop. Its where I've always done them.

Are you using PC or Mac? I've been off Mac for too long, I forget how (though it's probably just as straightforward). Open your photo in any image processing program - it can be as complex as PhotoShop or simple as Paint - and look for the Resize option. In Paint this is on the Home tab. In PhotoShop look for Image > Adjust > Image Size. Reduce the size to be just under the limit (whatever it is) and Save As itself with a slightly altered name - I put + after the name so I know it's been altered, and still shows up in previews right after the original for comparison.

If it's on a PC open it in Paint, select Resize, make sure the Percentage radio button is selected and select 75 for the width and height and save. Your image is now 75% of what it was formerly.

On Mac and for more sophisticated manipulation I can recommend xnview.

I use Photoshop elements and I do it the dead simplest way I can find.
    File:
    Save for Web:

That brings up a box where I can select the size of the photo in inches, mm, pixels or whatever (I use pixels), then there is a slider where I can dial in the size of the file in bits. I generally go with around 1200 to 1500 pixels for the larger dimension of the photo and 100K for the file size. That looks fine on a monitor but keeps the file small enough to upload quickly and easily.
