Default Finish & pickup in my Collings

I wasn't specifically looking for a Collings... or another mandolin at all... but I just found this one at a price that I couldn't pass up. The serial dates from 2004.

The label identifies it as an MT2. I noticed on Collings's website that the MT2V comes with the pickguard standard, while the lacquer MT2 does not. Should I assume that the pickguard on mine was a special order? Is the "V" always written on the label if it has the varnish finish?

Also, it has a good-sounding pickup that looks like a factory installation. Anyone know what brand/model it is?

The pickup looks like a McIntyre Feather to me.

The mt2 that I bought had a pick guard installed also (after the fact). Fun Mando. I got mine a few months ago and am still getting used to the intricacies of the sound.

The label would read MT2-V or MT2V. If in doubt you can call Collings and they can check their records. I have an MT2V from 2005 and it is a very powerful mandolin with beautiful and complex tones all the way to the 15th fret. I sold a Heiden to buy this one and have no regrets.

Thanks everyone! I'm not picky about which model it is; I was just asking out of curiosity. Looks like I should take the label at face value.

It's a wonderful instrument, with plenty of volume and a beautiful sound. My main mando has been a '32 F-2 for a while, so I'm not used to a modern instrument with big, unworn frets - I'm pleasantly surprised by the playability every time I pick up the Collings.
