Eliseo Martí (1889-1963): "Juguetona" - gavottina per quartetto
    Published in "Il Plettro", 1919

Eliseo Martí was a Catalan composer and leader of various plucked orchestras and ensembles in Barcelona from 1917 onwards (as well as being a professional timpanist). The title translates as either "playful" or "wanton" -- with the association of playfulness and Barcelona, the visual theme for my accompanying slide show clearly had to be Antoni Gaudi.

There is a mini biography of the composer here, and a set list from a 1940 radio broadcast by Martí's own quartet opening with this piece here.

Played as a quartet of two mandolins, mandola (octave mandolin) and tenor guitar:

    1890s Umberto Ceccherini mandolin
    1915 Luigi Embergher mandolin
    Mid-Missouri M-111 octave mandolin
    Ozark tenor guitar
