    A little factiod I learned from a Canadian builder (hey Mario!)....most fifties and sixties wooden step ladders were fashioned from adirondack spruce!.....way too small for tops, but there is some killer brace wood in the second hand shops.

    Clapboard too, if you happen to run into an old house being demolished...
    Spruce for clapboard seems like a lousy choice, but that's what they used...

    I visited a clapboard mill back in the 90's, and they were putting many a guitar top onto the sides of houses...

    I believe this is the final word on the different types of spruce. So far, I haven't seen anyone successfully argue against it.

    I did not know Redwood was a spruce.
    I thought is was a Cypress.
