Glue for Nut and extension of fret board
Good evening everyone!
I am completing my first mandolin kit and I am in the homestretch. I am getting ready to put it all back together....
2 Questions to the veteran builders:
1. What type of glue do I use to glue the nut in place?
2. I have the fret board extension that is over the body....what glue do I use for that?
This has been fun and will probably do another kit before trying one from scratch. I will take any advice that you are willing to hand out!
Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: Glue for Nut and extension of fret board
The nut should be glued lightly to the end of the fingerboard only. A couple of small dabs of Titebond, Elmers, superglue, anything like that as long as it is a small amount. Don't glue the bottom surface of the nut, there is no need to, and it often causes wood to be splintered off of the neck surface when the nut must be removed later.
Fingerboard extension can be glued with several different appropriate glues depending partly upon what type of construction. Flat top? arched with no elevated extender? arched with elevated extender? other?

Re: Glue for Nut and extension of fret board
I prefer Elmers white school glue - 2 tiny drops - to hold the nut. It holds well and will pop off easily when you need it to. On my personal mandolins, I don't glue the nut. I like Original Titebond for the construction part, which includes the fingerboard extension.

Re: Glue for Nut and extension of fret board
I use CA gel for nuts. Two or three tiny dots.
For f-b support on f style I use two glues at the same time. Medium viscosity CA on the part that glues to ivoroid crosspiece and HHG between the support and top.
