    Default CGCG tuning

So come on, who's had a go at this then? CGCG. Great fun for frantic strumming I just found. It and its ADAD variant on G-tuned instruments have eluded me until now, just hadn't tried it

I might have to record a video when I've a helper to record it with me!

You mean AEAE variant, often used in old time music?

I have played in AEAE, and GDGD tuning. Never considered CGCG, which I guess would be sawmill tuning on a mandola.

Wait, you tune the top two strings up a third? Is your high G string made of spiderweb?

You all better look at what the forum this thread is in: Tenor Guitars. You lower the 1st and 2nd strings down a step from standard TG tuning.

    lol

Indeed as others said, CGDA becomes CGCG. Step down on the high strings.

I'm gonna try and rig up a video recording once I get some food down me

in my original post I said ADAD - rightly so I was picked up on that as that was a tired mistake - of course GDGD would be the irish tuned version of that

I don't subscribe to the idea that tenors have to be in a variant of CGDA. GDAE variants are equally valid to me. It shouldn't matter if it's possible. It's just that my Mcilroy LOVES C tuning.

OK so here's what I've been playing around with since i posted this thread. Kind of a basis for someone to play a tune over. Doesn't feel like a song at the moment, unusually.

Onboard mics on my SLR aren't great by the way. If I had more knowledge I'd be wiring up the condensers!

I'm genuinely mystified by what I could have been thinking. Still, I think we can agree that these sorts of tunings are unnatural and only explored by deviants.

it's true, I am a deviant. I get bored with standard tunings on all bar mandolin. I've done GDAD on mandolin, but that bored me.

That sounds nice, it has a dulcimer like quality to it in that tuning.
That's a nice tenor you have there.
    Charley
