    Default April Travel to N.O., Portland & Seattle, looking for an OT jam

    I'll be in New Orleans April 11-13, Portland April 14-17 and Seattle April 17-21, and hoping to find a beginner-friendly old-time jam (or more than one!) with a spare mandolin.

    I've been in touch with Tony Mates, who generously offered to loan me a mando, but the April 18 jam in Seattle is geared more to intermediate-advanced level, and I'm not sure I can keep up. So, looking for alternatives!

    There may be an odd jam in New Orleans but it is NOT a big old-time or Bluegrass city...but you could find a jazz jam session!

    There used to be a folk jam in a pizza place in South Carollton St. in N.O. - near the fwy.

    Ah geez, Zach, that sounds perfect (and the group looks great), but it's the day before I get in.

    Thanks Eddie, I'll see if I can find any info on it.

    Just make sure you eat at Mandina's in New Orleans! One of the best REAL local places, on Canal St.

    @Eddie, @DavidKOS - think I found it:

    @gtani7 - I will contact D.S. I actually joined the Seattle Bluegrass Meetup group & will be going to the April 18 jam. I won't say no if you want to bring a mando!!

    Thanks to all for the input so far, much appreciated!

    I've also been in touch with Greg from Taborgrass and will take one of his Saturday BG lessons in Portland. I'm set!!

    @davidKOS, Mandina's is just up the street from where I'm staying. The menu looks GOOD.

    Thanks again, all!

    I'll be in NOLA Apr 18-22. Stay on a while and we'll jam some!

    Not a jam but they're worth catching; from the Tubaskinny website http://www.tubaskinny.tk/
    "Also, you can usually catch us on Royal St., somewhere between St. Peter and Conti streets, sometime between 11am and 4pm, on Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays, weather depending."
