    Default Down In The Flood

My music room is a lower-level room in the back of the house, and in the heavy thunderstorms and hail of yesterday's storm, the music room flooded! About 1/2" inch of water in there. Fortunately, both my mandolins as well as my favorite (and most expensive) guitars were on stands and wall hangers in my bedroom. Also fortunately, the seven guitars that were in the music room were on stands and wall hangers there and did not get wet. What got wet was some empty cases and two amplifiers, and of course miscellaneous furniture and stands.

The instruments will be stored in my living room temporarily, while clean-up and disinfectant/deodorizing is done to the room. Needless to say, this has introduced a great deal of humidity into the house. Time will tell how much of an effect this will have on my musical instruments.

That's too bad, Mark. I am glad all your babies were out of immediate harm's way. I imagine there is a run on dehumidifiers in your area right now. If you need one, maybe Amazon with quick shipping option checked.

Wow. Not a great way to be spending your weekend. At least the important stuff survived.

Hi Mark - I'm really sorry to hear that you've been flooded. Apart from a person's family, the most precious thing is their home & i really feel for folk who's homes have been damaged,or,as in the case of the folks up in Alberta,Canda, completely obliterated.
All you can do is to take it slow, figure out what needs doing & get it done. Hopefully you'll get some warmer weather along soon to help dry things out,
    Best wishes - Ivan

Oh, so sorry, Mark. The good news, as it relates to your instruments at least, is that high humidity tends to be far less damaging than the opposite, I'm told. You're in the drier part of Texas so help is on the way. I suppose you want to avoid wide humidity changes in short time frames, though. Good luck with all your endeavors.

Still haven't made it out to Pearl but it's on the "list". Hope to see you there sometime.

Mark, simply running some fans in the basement will help with the humidity, a dehumidifier would help more and both would be better. Good luck I have had that happen to me many years ago, flooded my basement shop. Glad there wasn't much damage.

Thanks for all the well-wishes, guys. Got the news today that my internet probably won't be back up until Tuesday

Oh well, it's an excuse to spend time with a mandolin and a laptop at the coffee shop

Thanks again, I'm sure all will be well; in the meantime, house is already got a musty stink. Getting it rectified is going slowly, due to high humidity and light rain showers this weekend

Hi choctaw61, I was born and raised in Watson, Louisiana (Florida Parishes, Livingston). Saw some of the flood damage there. I'm in Callahan County now about 15 miles from Abilene. I have a cousin from the hometown who's transplanted to the Houston area, and they too have had some terrible flood issues lately. Best wishes and prayers for all the families dealing with loss.
