Soundstage, Austin City Limits, Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers, A&E's Live By Request,etc., plus whatever gets aired during PBS fundraising week drives, and shows on Bravo, Trio. And of course, there's the actual concert films, which may or may not receive TV airing.

Nice list Niles. Excellent call on the Pink Floyd - one of my favorites. Most of my dvd's are music.

I like the Hendrix Isle of wight show, "Wild Blue Angel."

For the Grateful Dead, "Closing of Winterland" is my current favorite.

"Festival Express" combines excellent footage of the Dead and The Band with an explosive show by Janis. Combined with some of the stuff on the train (Jerry doin' "Jordan") this dvd is a real treat.

Don't forget "Monterey Pop." The set I have has an outtakes disc and a disc with all of Jimi's set and all of Otis Reddings set.

"Westway to the World" - Excellent documentary on the Clash.

Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble - Live at the El Macambo. HOT HOT HOT. Just a club date from the mid 80's (before he made the switch to the Marshall) where someone was running cameras. Amazing.

Stop Making Sense - Talking Heads (I just had to add another vote in favor.)
Yellow Submarine - Can't live without it.
IT - Phish. Fantastic if you like them.
Rainbow Bridge - Hendrix and Cultists. This is a strange one, there's some good Hendrix footage at the end (including ten minutes of his off-stage drunken ramblings,) but you have to sit through 90 minutes of weiiiiird 70's stuff from hippies living in Hawaii. Worth checking out once, at least.

If you aren't familiar with FELA KUTI from Nigeria, check out one of the videos of his live performances. Incredible sax and keyboards. He died some years back but his son Femi Kuti performs in the US regularly.

Among my favorites I would reiterate Stop Making Sense by the Talking heads and The Last Waltz by the band. Interestingly enough, the foremer was directed by Jonathen Demme, and the latter by Martin Scorsese.

I'd also add the Ben Folds Five's Complete Sessions at West 54th.

I agree with many of the above mentioned, but something new to me that I thoroughly enjoyed was The Saw Doctors "Live in Galway". They have a Springsteen-like connection with their audience that is just alot of fun to watch. And they really rock, too.

Check out either of Peter Gabriel's live concert DVD's for a great theatrical show that also includes some wonderful world music overtones and very high productions values. It is too bad he is not as popular in the US as abroad, but I take what I can get.....

I was the lighting director for X. In the opening X sequence that is my arm getting the X tatto.
