Crump mandola and short-scale OM?
So all this talk of liking mandola better than mandolin, and transposing the mandola, etc., has made me realize that I too, like the sound of a mandola, maybe more than a mandolin. At the same time, I'm looking at Phil Crump's CBOMs, because they're just wonderful-sounding. However, his are on the long-scaled side, as is his mandola. So I'm hoping someone has some experience with his mandola, and also his short-scaled octave mando. I haven't found any recordings, and word of mouth is better than nothing. Thx.

Re: Crump mandola and short-scale OM?
I haven't personal experience with Phil's shorter instruments but he can make one any scale length that you choose.
I have a B-II which I dearly love and enjoy immensely and I have referred a number of folks to him and have seen all manner
of customizations and variations come out the other side.
I recommend you speak with him, he's a good man, easy to talk with, and he may refer you to folks or recordings or such
which may give you what you wish.
Cheers,
stv

Thanks, this is good advice. As it happens, I've commissioned an OM from him. The scale length worries me a little bit, but the sound is gorgeous.
