Default Prototype build thread- Single-point design in madrone OM

Hi all! Haven't posted in a while, but I'm working on a new design I thought might be interesting to share:
I've always had teardrop-shaped instruments slide down my leg if you don't use a strap... so how about a single point design?

Since its a prototype, I also decided to use some nicely quartered madrone I've had drying in the shop for at least 7 years now, to get a feel for it as an insturment wood.

Here is the internals before gluing up:

I like the single point design, but not sure it's going to help from sliding in your lap. A lower point may have helped with than. I would love to hear this when done, like the X bracing.

I like the soundhole design, too. Hope the strings won't obstruct too much of the view.

Josh, the side-holes will no doubt improve the musician's direct awareness of the instrument's sound. Do you find it affects the volume or tone produced by the instrument for the audience in front of the instrument?

    Thanks and Regards,
    David

David, I have found the perceived sound for the musician to be brighter, more direct, definitely enhanced. But as for audience, I can't say I have noticed much change I could directly attribute to the soundports.

Indirectly, one guitarist I worked with found the sound from the soundports to be very inspiring- he played with enhanced volume and tone and I think the audience benefited in that case! That's a psychological effect of course...

Nice work and +1 for the soundhole design. Jimmy Moon also uses a single point design in a couple of his models.

    Lovely work!
All my life I wanted to be somebody, now I realize I should have been more specific.
