    Default Minimalism for Bluegrass Ensemble

Matthew McBane was commissioned by the Jake Schepps Quintet to write a piece for bluegrass ensemble. "Drawn" is in a minimalist style, scored for violin, mandolin, banjo, guitar, and bass. You can hear tracks from the Jake Schepps CD "Entwined" that includes this work in 5 movements.

Crossing genres, Bela Fleck meets Philip Glass. Performed as part of the Carlsbad Music Festival at the Carlsbad Village Theater, Carlsbad, CA, August 26 at 7 pm.

I will be playing mandolin in the ensemble.

I am sad to report that the banjo player cancelled, so the performance is also cancelled, perhaps to occur next year. I understand it is a challenge to find a classical musician that plays 5-string banjo.

Hold the presses, Matt found a banjo player. Mark Cassidy from LA is on board now. Original showtime info holds. The gig is on!

Mark Cassidy is a great banjo player, and he was my room mate at South Plains College! You found a good one!
