NMD: Stromberg-Voisinet

I loved the shape of these after having seen one in Graham McDonald's book, and I really like cant-top mandos. In fact, these old Chicago-made mandolins seem to be seducing me!

I got it off EBay for a pretty good price (£200.00), and it arrived to me in better shape than I had thought, with strings that might have been older than the instrument itself! Plus a nice old Black Diamond string in its original wrapper - very cool.

It has a small separation in the bottom of the neck heel and a slight bow in the neck around the 10th fret, but I think with the lighter strings I've put on it, it will be OK. I'm tuning it up to pitch over a few days using Martin 10-34 phosphor bronze strings. The tuners are in good shape, and work well, with just a drop of 3-in-1 oil added. There is cracking between many of the tuners. I may need to address that down the road.

Yea LadysSolo, I'm wondering if I could bring the detail out. I've seen ones where it looks like charcoal was rubbed into it to bring out the contrast.

It's all your fault that I got this, Graham. I needed it like a hole in the head. Glad I chanced it, though! Now if I could find one of those elegant two-point Regals like the one in your book (or save up to buy one of yours) ...
