I know this must have ample postings but, I can't find them. I am trying to find out string recommendations for a '24 Gibson A Jr. I am particularly interested in gauge recommendations.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everybody has a horse in this race. Mine's FW74s from d,Addario. Experiment for a few years. Strings are like shoes; Some fit better than others. Every foot (or mandolin) is a little different. Have fun!

GHS is coming out, sometime in the future, with a pure nickel string. I have them on my A2 and it is truly wonderful. Simply the best string I have had on there after owing this mandolin for nearly 20 years. Won't help you now tho, sorry. I use 11-40 and have use GHS A270 strings, GHS Silk and Bronze, and GHS White Bronze guitar strings on mine until now. If you want to go a little lighter you could use 11-38. They should all work, have fun.

Assuming the instrument is in good shape and all, there is no reason it could not take medium strings. I might start with something like the D'Addario J74 as was mentioned. (EJ74 I think they are now called). You have lots of choices.
How about D'Addario Stainless Steel, which is probably close to the original strings?
