Thread: Folk Punk - A different twist on some classic instruments.

Default Folk Punk - A different twist on some classic instruments.

Here is a different take on Folk Music from a local Salt Lake City band called Folk Hogan. We came across them a few years ago and love their use of folk instruments in a different way. They write all their own music and are one of the best live bands I have ever seen.

That's Moses McKinley on the mandolin. He is the one that inspired me to start taking mandolin lessons, and he is now my teacher.

    Enjoy!

Well, folk punk is nothing new nor rare, although it usually comes in the celtic variety. Still, good stuff, good playing.

Im not sure where i am with these guys.
Dark, middle eastern scales. But, dare i say, imho, overfaced with what they are attempting versus what they are delivering. Ie almost go the chops.....but not quite, not tight.

But, i thank you for sharing this sound.

Ah, thought there was something familiar 'bout them.

After leaving Milwaukee in 2007 he relocated to Pittsburgh, PA where he now calls home, that is when he's not touring nearly full-time as mandolin and banjo player with The ####### Gallows, or for his own project Jayke Orvis & The Broken Band.
